Feng Shui Bathroom – How To Love Your Bathroom

Posted on 26. Nov, 2010 by in Feng Shui Bathroom

One of the common misconceptions I hear is that bathrooms are bad for Feng Shui. It is true that bathrooms can be difficult areas to deal with as the number of drains in the room can have the unfortunate effect of  drawing chi from the home, but if you care for and love your bathroom there is absolutely no reason why it can’t be a beautiful space where positive chi circulates and stays.

In this section of the website I am going to show you both how you can ensure that your bathroom becomes a positive area of your home and how you can overcome some of the more common problems. Starting of course with the positives here are my top five tips for bathroom success.

1) Make sure your bathroom is clean and tidy and everything works as it should. Toilets should flush on the first attempt, taps should not be dripping and any dodgy light bulbs should be replaced

2) Toilets and plugholes ideally should be covered when not in use. Toilet seats should always be closed and ideally sinks and baths should have plugholes with covers built in. If you have plugholes with separate plugs I do not advocate you just put the plug in as this could well be a recipe for disaster especially if you have a dripping tap! Plughole covers are very cheap and very easy to fit and so I would recommend that you replace these at the first opportunity.

3)Use white towels and replace these regularly when they start to look dirty. White towels always look clean and fresh in any bathroom. Coordinate the white towels with towels that are the representative of the bagua area that the bathroom is situated in, so if your bathroom is in the wealth area add in towels of red or turquoise, if your bathroom is in the family area add in towels of pale green or sage and if your bathroom is in the relationship area add in pink or brown towels

4) Do not panic if your bathroom is in the wealth area. Any negative impact can be easily overcome by tying red ribbons around any pipes that drain away water. Cut a ribbon in to pieces that are 9 inches long and tie them around the pipe behind the sink, the bath and the toilet. When placing a red ribbon as a cure always remember to complete the three secrets reinforcement.

5)Heighten your different senses in the bathroom by adding in some sweet smelling flowers or plants, scented soap, bowls of crystals and soft fluffy towels and mats

Following the guidance above should ensure your bathroom aids and supports the natural flow of chi bringing harmony and balance to this area of your home. However some bathroom locations can lead to the need for more specific action and so I have covered how to overcome some of the common bathroom problems below.

Overcoming Common Problems with Bathrooms

A Bathroom or Cloakroom next to the front door

Many modern homes are built with a cloakroom. The most common place and often the most practical is for this to be situated just inside the front door. However as the front door is the mouth of the home, a cloakroom or bathroom right inside the door can lead to the risk of chi draining away before it has had chance to properly enter the home.

To overcome this place a mirror inside the bathroom opposite the bathroom door. Ensure the mirror is not divided in two, an impression that is often given if the mirror forms two doors of a bathroom cabinet. Ideally the mirror should be in the shape that represents the element of the area that the room is situated in so if the bathroom is in the career area a freeform mirror should be used, if it is in the helpful friends area a circular mirror is best and in the knowledge area a square or oblong would be the best shape. Ensure the mirror does not reflect the toilet and is hung high enough in the room for it to reflect the top of your head

A Bathroom at the top of the stairs.

If the bathroom is at the top of the stairs, and especially if the stairs lead down to the front door, chi can enter the house, move up the stairs and then exit straight through the bathroom. To overcome this you can hang a crystal or windchime between the bathoom door and the toilet. To further strengthen healthy chi in this situation it is also useful to place a healthy plant with dark green foliage or a bowl filled with crystals or stones behind the toilet.

A Bathroom in the centre of the house

The centre of the house is known as the heart of the house and to have drains in this area is seen as not conducive to healthy chi. If this is where your bathroom or cloakroom is positioned in your home the best cure is to place a full length mirror on the outside of the door. If this is not practical or possible, then a large mirror on the wall next to the bathroom door will work just as well.
