The Feng Shui Bagua

Think of the Bagua as a map of the home. Placing the bagua on the floorplan of our home helps us identify the different focus points in our home, much like if we were using grid references on a map to find a town or city. The Bagua, meaning eight sides, creates eight distinct areas in our home, moving clockwise from the south; fame and self esteem, relationships, children and creativity, helpful friends, career, knowledge, family and wealth. The centre point however gets largely ignored in the bagua and I think this can sometimes be troublesome. The centre point of our home is the health area and in Feng Shui if we have balanced all of the other eight areas in our home this largely takes care of itself. However it is very important that this area doesn’t get neglected and so I think it is useful to also consider it as a ninth area in it’s own right.
For me the bagua is one of the points from which we start our Feng Shui journey. To understand the energy in our home we need to understand the bagua. In everyday life it is important that we understand the different features of each area of the bagua so that we can ensure each area is balanced. Again think of this like a grid on a map, each grid contains something different but put together make a whole. Understanding what makes up each area of the bagua the auspicious numbers, elements, colours and shapes will also help us strengthen specific areas in times where we need to bring a special focus to that part of our life.
On this page I have included the different features that make up each Bagua area. I hope you find it useful. If you would like to understand the bagua in more detail, and especially how to relate it to your unique home I would love to see you on one of my workshops or training courses.
